Each contract article covers a specific set of issues and concepts. Some issues will span multiple contract articles. We have not yet begun negotiations on some articles and they are not included in this list.

List of proposals

This is a list of all proposal documents (grouped by their respective article) that have been exchanged at a bargaining session thusfar. Not all articles have been exchanged thusfar.

What does each article cover?

  • Establishes our union contract.

  • Outlines who is and isn’t covered under our contract with guaranteed rights (e.g. RAs, TAs, fellows).

  • Union membership and dues payment.

  • Sharing of information for representational and contract purposes.

  • Outlines the process for enforcing our contract rights and resolving disputes.

  • Protects from unfair discipline or firing in our jobs.

  • Protects our ability to meet, share information, and represent members.

  • List of MIT’s contract rights.

  • Bars strikes during the contract.

  • Protections from harassment and discrimination & outlines worker rights in IDHR processes.

  • Covers accommodations for disabilities, gender, restrooms, religious practice, and breastfeeding.

  • Protections and support for international graduate student workers.

  • Workplace safety protections and reporting of hazardous conditions.

  • Requires open positions to be posted on a central online portal.

  • Requires workers to provide written notice of the terms of your appointment, such as pay and work expectations.

  • Provides bridge funding when an appointment is canceled.

  • Workplace expectations, job-related rights, and professional working conditions.

  • No-cost employee training.

  • Workload expectations, work hours, position descriptions for RAs, TAs, etc.

  • What happens if parts of our contract are legally unenforceable.
